The Main thing

Many years ago I heard Peter Lord say: “Keep the main thing, the main thing.” As simple as that sounds it is not always an easy thing to do.  Sometimes I wonder if the Church is missing the mark when it comes to the the “Main Thing” of it’s existence.

Reaching the lost.

Let me explain what I mean. Hunting is something I love to do. In deer hunting there is a temptation you must avoid, the temptation is to focus on counting the points on the antlers and failing to focus on the mechanics of shooting . The main thing is not th

e size of the antlers but bringing the animal down quickly with proper shot placement.

However some hunters get so focused on the size of their trophy they wait to long to shoot, and miss the opportunity, or they

miss the animal all together. Why, because they didn’t keep the “main thing the main thing.”  This is what is happening in allot of Churches today.

Focusing on the three B’s ( Bigger budgets, Bigger buildings, and Bigger crowds) they get their eyes off of the main thing. Evangelism! Sadly some claim that focusing on the three B’s is evangelism. Sadly most of their growth comes from other Christians transferring into their Church from another Church. In order to hide this some Church’s insist that you must be re-baptized in order to be a member. by doing this they falsify their baptism records and make it look like they are reaching the lost.

My point is this. The world around us is going to hell, because we have our eye’s on the size of our trophies and not upon spreading the gospel. If we as ministers will equip our people how to share their faith effectively, and measure growth not by the size of our budgets, buildings, and crowds but by conversions then we are keeping the main thing, the main thing.  We are commanded to make disciples first!  Matthew 28:19.

I am not against the three B’s. I think they are great! Just as long as we remember the reason for the Church’s existence is to do what Jesus did.

Seek and save the lost.

The 5 Principles of Christian Attitude

Attitude! All you have to do is spend a little time in the Corporate world or reading leadership books and you will hear about the power of a positive attitude.
Attitude goes a long way in helping us face challenges in life. For example what makes the difference between a person who survives after being lost in the wilderness, and some one who doesn’t? Often times it the attitude of “I will make it through this!”
We as Christians must develop an attitude that is inline with God’s word if we are going to survive behind enemy lines! I found these five principles in Alvin Reid’s book “Evangelism Handbook” If we develop these principles in our lives as Christians imagine how we can effect the world around us with the gospel of Jesus Christ!

The  Principles of Christian Attitude

1. I am responsible for my attitude.

2. My attitude is either my friend or my enemy.

3. I must constantly correct my attitude.

4. My attitude is contagious.

5. My attitude reflects my Walk with God.

(Alvin Reid “Evangelism Handbook)

The power of testimony

Never forget that your personal testimony is a powerful tool in evangelism! You couple your story, or stories with the blood of the lamb and you have got a powerful witnessing tool in your arsenal! Remember what Revelation 12:11 say’s:

They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb

and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.
NIV
I have designed a Evangelism training tool for Churches based upon the idea that God wants to use your testimony, and stories to win the lost around you!

How you can get the Faith of Tim Tebow

By now most people have heard of Tim Tebow and his strong Christian convictions and the way he has chosen to honor God during his games. I for one am very grateful that we have a young man who will stand up for Jesus Christ and His gospel!

Did you ever wonder though about his faith? What is it that makes him so committed to it? Well I want to share with you two things. First is that God created man sinless, man disobeyed God which resulted in sin and man becoming totally separated from God who is holy (Unable to sin and can’t have sin in His presence). God drove man out from his presence and man was left to his own way in which to live. The second is that God provided away for man to be saved.

Mans way in which he lives is full of evil because mankind is sinful from birth. Rom 3:10-12 “As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one; 11 there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. 12 All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.” NIV

Because mankind is unrighteous and full of sin, God destined man to die and then face His judgment and wrath. Heb 9:27 “Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment” NIV. This is the only way a Holy God can treat sinners. However, God was not content to leave man alone!

He did this by sending Jesus His only son to take upon himself our sins and guilt! John 3:16 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” Jesus died for us to take away all of the sin, shame, and guilt! He is the answer to our problem! 1 Peter 3:18 “Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God.” He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit.”

Jesus Christ didn’t stay dead though! He was raised from the dead on the third day and we can have a new life because of Him! 1 Peter 1:3 “ All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead.” His resurrection gives us a life made new! A life lived by God’s ways found in the Bible.

This leaves us with a choice; do we continue to live the way we want to, which results in frustration, anger, guilt, pain, death, and judgment? Or do we repent of our sins and old ways and turn to Jesus God’s provision for us and live in His way’s? Tebow chose Jesus and His ways.

What about you? What which way will you choose today? If you decide to live for Jesus like Tebow, then look to the right and you will see how to become a Christian. Follow those steps, then go and find a Church like an Assemblies of God, Church of God, or Baptist and tell the pastor or another Christian your decision and follow their instructions. If you became a Christian today because of this, then leave a comment on this blog so that I can pray for you as well!
