Are we emboldened?

This is one of my devotions entitled “In spite of” I usually keep this private, however I feel like the Christians need to hear this.

1 Thes.2:2 On the contrary, after we had previously suffered, and we were treated outrageously in Philippi, as you know, we were emboldened by our God to speak the gospel of God to you in spite of great opposition.

Why do we back down when opposition to the gospel rears it’s head? Paul says that the outrageous treatment they received caused them to be emboldened by God to speak the gospel in spite of great opposition. We however retreat, and retool our message in order to not give offense. For us in the west great opposition is a cause for us to stay silent, or try to water down the gospel. This is more Political correctness than true Holy Spirit empowered thinking. It is undermining the message we share and the hope we hold.
Opposition is not a sign to retool, regroup, or change our message, rather it should embolden us to speak the truth more! Nothing is more loving than telling the truth to someone who desperately needs to hear it.

I will seek out the emboldening power of the Holy Spirit in the face of opposition to the message of the gospel. For opposition is a sign of Spirit empowered preaching! Not a signal to retreat.

Father,
Embolden me with power to not only Preach the gospel but preach it with signs and wonders through the power of the Holy Spirit!

Amen
